iPhone 15 specifications are not yet official, but supply chain rumors and patent applications paint a fairly clear picture of the phone. Apple’s latest model is expected to ditch the Lightning port for USB-C and include a larger display with higher peak brightness.
Leaks also suggest that the iPhone 15 will support faster data transfers through Thunderbolt 3. Apple may limit this feature to accessories certified by MFi.
Portrait Mode
The style of a blurred background that we associate with professional portrait photography can now be achieved on your iPhone without any extra accessories. This feature, called Portrait mode, is a result of software algorithms that fabricate a depth-of-field effect and keeps the subject sharp while blurring out the background.
Portrait mode also offers various lighting effects, including Natural Light, Studio Light, Contour Light, Stage Light, and High-Key Light Mono, to add a touch of flair to your photos. The best ip 15 part is that these effects can be edited and changed after you’ve taken the photo, allowing you to create your own style of portraits.
When using Portrait mode, it’s important to keep in mind that it works best with one person or a small group of people. If there are too many faces in the frame, the camera may not be able to tell which face to focus on and it might end up blurring the wrong face or not blurring the face at all.
With iOS 15, you can now use Portrait mode to take video of yourself while on a FaceTime call. When you’re in Portrait mode, the phone will automatically shift its focus to your face and blur the background. However, this only works if you’re positioned about two to eight feet away from the camera.
Data Security
Apple is implementing new hardware and software features to help protect the privacy of its users. The iPhone 15 series is expected to include a new feature called iMessage Contact Key Verification, which will let users know when an unauthorized device joins an iMessage conversation.
The iMessage Key Verification feature works by using end-to-end encryption to verify the identity of a sender. This will help to keep conversations private and prevent unauthorized access to personal information such as credit card numbers, addresses or passwords.
Moreover, Apple will improve its iOS security with an update to the OS that will make it harder for malicious apps to exploit vulnerabilities. This feature is expected to be available as a beta in the first quarter of 2023.
Respected display analyst Ross Young has tipped that Apple will expand its dynamic 120Hz refresh rate technology known as Dynamic Island to all iPhone models this year, including the base iPhone 15. That would make them compatible with ProMotion, which adjusts the screen’s smoothness to suit what’s on-screen.
Enhanced Siri
Apple’s Siri software has been upgraded with new features for the iPhone 15 that enhance functionality and improve how well it works. With iOS 15, Siri uses on-device speech processing to perform more functions, and it learns what you ask for most often. It can also keep up with your vocabulary, and it will offer more personalized controls and offline functioning.
A feature called Hey Siri lets you use Siri without having to unlock your phone. It’s a handy way to check the time, set reminders, or control your music when you can’t touch your screen. If you’re wearing a helmet or mask, or are in a noisy environment, you can also use this to answer questions without lifting your hands off of the device.
In 2018, a glitch was discovered that allowed users to trigger Siri to say “motherfucker” when asking for the definition of a word. Apple fixed this in a silent update to iOS.
Apple’s troubled history with modems may have led the company to partner with Qualcomm for the upcoming release of the iPhone 15. Supply chain analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicted in 2022 that the iPhone 15 will use new chips based on a 7nm process, which would boost performance while reducing power consumption.
